This year’s Chariots of Fire race took place on Sunday 16th September 2012 at Queens Green, Cambridge.

Chariots of Fire is one of Cambridgeshire’s largest annual charity events. The race follows in the footsteps of the famous film, taking its scenic route through the streets and colleges of Cambridge, with teams of six each running a 1.7 mile course in relay format. This year funds are being raised for two charities; Cambridge Past, Present & Future and Cam Sight.

Once again, this year Dalehead entered four teams (Stradbroke, Bury, Linton and Spalding). Like previous years we had our own competition between teams. There were some very fast runners with every runner putting in a remarkable effort to get round the course in as fast a time as possible.

The team from Spalding (named ‘Dalehead we slaughter them all’) were the winners this year with all six runners completing the course in 1hour 11minutes. Congratulations to them. Even though the gap between them and second place Bury (‘Dalehead Rams and Ewes’) was just under 7 minutes, it was a competitive race.

The list of finishing times and places can be seen below:

1st – Dalehead We Slaughter Them All (Spalding) – 1 hour 11 minutes 14 seconds (overall 75th out of 308 teams, 31st in the mixed category)

2nd – Dalehead Rams and Ewes (Bury) – 1 hour 18 minutes 8 seconds (overall 169th, 83rd in the mixed category)

3rd – The Flying Pigmen (BQP) – 1 hour 19 minutes 57 seconds (overall 197th, 102nd in the mixed category)

4th – Dalehead Trotters (Linton) – 1 hour 20 minutes 40 seconds (overall 206th, 110th in the mixed category)

Training has already started for next year!
