Dalehead Foods welcomed two students from Linton Village College for a week of work experience. One of their briefs whilst here was to write an article on the recent award winning Boston Butt Pork Shoulder. Gemma and Becky’s article starts here….

Of the many incredible products made here at Dalehead such as fresh pork and lamb, sausages and added value, the hard efforts of the team has paid off as they have been awarded the Meat Management Industry Award for best pork or pig meat product. The winner was the Boston Butt Pork Shoulder Joint with spicy BBQ Rub and Drizzle.

Inspired by the slow cooking of the BBQ states of America, this pork product is seasoned with a BBQ twist to make it full of flavour and the meat succulent. The initiative of the product development team, who actually went over to America to really try and capture all of the state’s spirits in food, is what won Dalehead the prize against extremely stiff competition due to the number of different entries in this category. By embracing the Dalehead development team’s creativity and giving them plenty of opportunities to work on exciting new flavour combinations with the different meat products, it has allowed them to not only win this award but also have a fantastic range of diverse products (400) ranging from pork chops to gammon in caramel glazes and sausages designed by Heston Blumenthal (so a wide variety of weird and wacky flavours).  This also enables Dalehead to constantly delight their customers and keep a good idea of their ever changing trends so they can continue to supplythe new and original products that they want and will love.

Matt Starbuck, Dalehead Commercial Director said ‘it is a real tribute to our creativity acknowledged and rewarded by the broader meat industry’. To mark the award Dalehead were given a glass trophy as well as a certificate that has pride of place in Linton reception so that any visitors who enter can see that our meat is of award winning standards.
